Our Animal Control Department is staffed by one Animal Control Officer, who is under the direction of the Sanitation Superintendent. The Animal Control Officer is responsible for catching animals running at large in the city and dealing with nuisance animals (raccoons, opossums, etc.) in the interest of public safety. The Animal Control Officer also cares for, and adopts out unclaimed and surrendered dogs in the care of the city after a holding period of 6 days. The Animal Control Department works with Arkadelphia Police when citations need to be issued for reoccurring violations, but we are more interested in solving problems the first time with communication rather than fines.
Arkadelphia Animal Control is a municipally-owned and operated animal control facility with a focus on public safety. We make every effort to offer animals for adoption, but we do have the policy to euthanize in place set by City of Arkadelphia ordinance, enacted by-election in 1970.
If you would like to adopt an animal from us please fill out the form below and submit it to our Animal Control Officer. If there is a particular animal that you are willing to adopt, please let the Animal Control Officer know ahead of time.
Arkadelphia Animal Control loans out live traps to deal with nuisance animals (raccoons, opossums, feral cats, etc.). There is no fee to borrow a trap, just complete the application form and submit it to the Animal Control Officer, and you may borrow a trap if one is available. We only provide the trap, you are responsible for removing the nuisance animal once it has been trapped.
