The City of Arkadelphia’s Fire Department will be conducting its annual fire hydrant flushings starting Monday, May 29.
Weather permitting, AFD will be flushing hydrants Monday through Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. throughout the month of June or until completed.
Annual hydrant flushing is a critical part of maintaining city fire hydrants. The process ensures adequate water flow is available to firefighters at each location, and helps clear any iron or mineral buildup that may be in the pipes.
Residents may experience lower water pressure or flow while the hydrants are being flushed. Water may also turn a tea/rust color due to the mineral buildup in the pipes, but it is still safe to use and consume.
AFD is following a schedule for its hydrant flushing. The schedule is as follows:
Northeast Quadrant: May 29 – June 2
Southwest Quadrant: June 5-9
Northwest Quadrant: June 12-16
Southeast Quadrant: June 19-23
AFD will follow this plan as closely as possible, weather permitting.
