City, Chamber to host Cinco de Mayo event

The City of Arkadelphia is partnering with the Arkadelphia Alliance and Area Chamber of Commerce to host a Cinco de Mayo event in downtown Arkadelphia on Thursday, May 5, 2022.

The event titled “Cinco de Mayo” will be a celebration of Mexican culture. The event will feature a live, nine-piece salsa band, a minimum of six food trucks and custom beverages prepared by 67 Grill.

The Arkadelphia Alliance and Area Chamber of Commerce is a proud sponsor and active participant in all city events. Executive Vice President Nikki Chandler says the idea of partnering with the city for Cinco de Mayo came after the success of the city’s TwosDay event on February 22.

“When 1,500 people showed up for the TwosDay event, we realized our community loves to get together and have a good time,” Chandler says. “Downtown was full of happy people, and the restaurants and shops were full. We look forward to seeing that again- and having lots of fun- on May 5th!”

The TwosDay celebration was the first of many special events the City of Arkadelphia will be hosting in 2022. With approximately 1,500 attendees, the event was considered to be an overwhelming success, as well as a learning experience.

“TwosDay taught us a lot,” Brinkley says. “It showed us that our residents are eager to create a sense of community, and rain or shine, will come out to do it. We’re currently working on logistics to bring in more food trucks, and set up a larger event space, to accommodate for more people.”

Cinco de Mayo will be held in the 800 block of Main Street in downtown Arkadelphia on Thursday, May 5. Food and beverage vendors will sell from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., with live music performances starting at 6:00 p.m.
