Arkadelphia Parks and Recreation will be hosting its first annual Youth Fishing Derby Saturday, April 23 at the Youth Sports Complex Pond.
From 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., children ages 15 and under are invited to come out to the pond for a morning of fishing and fun.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will be stocking the pond with 250 catfish. Fishing poles and bait will not be provided.
“Fishing is a great way to get kids outside and introduced to the Game and Fish Commission,” Recreation Programs Manager Mickey Bivens said. “While only kids 15 and under can fish, we hope to see families come out, have fun and make memories together.”
Participants are eligible to enter into Parks and Rec’s Youth Fishing Derby competition.
Those interested can have up to three fish on their stringer when it is weighed. The top three finalists will be announced at noon, and awarded various prizes.
